| HISTORY AND HIGHLIGHTS |
Despite a 10-goal, 45-point campaign with Regina of the WHL in 2005-06, Pyett was the second-to-last player selected in the 2006 draft … Led Canadian defensemen in scoring at the 2006 world under-18 championship (7-1-3-4) … Returned to Regina in 2006-07 and finished fourth among WHL defensemen in scoring (71-14-48-62) … Captained Regina in 2007-08 and enjoyed a 20-goal campaign — scoring 13 on the power play — and had 54 points … Also helped Canada to gold while logging third-pairing minutes at the 2008 world junior championship … Signed a three-year contract with the Red Wings in May 2008 … Spent four seasons developing his game in the AHL with Grand Rapids, but couldn’t surpass the 30-point season he achieved as a sophomore in 2009-10 … The Red Wings didn’t tender him a qualifying offer in 2012 and let Pyett walk as an unrestricted free agent.

| RWC SCOUTING EXCERPTS |
Smooth, mobile skater … Offensively inclined and more than willing to join, or lead, the rush … Crisp breakout passer who plays heads-up game … Poised and smart … Hard point shot … Former junior captain who has good leadership skills … Defensive game has improved in the AHL, but it’s not clear if he’ll have NHL success in that department … Hasn’t produced the AHL numbers expected of an offensive-minded player with his skill-set.

| RWC SCOUT QUOTES |
“He’s a small defenseman, but we like his offensive skills and ice vision. We’re all looking for the next John-Michael Liles. Some can make it. Some find a way to get through that, and other guys don’t.” — Red Wings assistant GM Jim Nill (2006) … “He’s one of those guys the new rules have really helped. Size is a factor but he’s strong for his size and he’s one of those Derek Meech- or Andrew Ference-type guys.” — Nill (2007) … “He’s bounced back from a really tough rookie season like it is for a lot of kids. He’s played really well.” — Nill (2010).
