RWC REPORT: Ferraro shakes off injury

By Matthew Wuest - RedWingsCentral.com / November 17, 2009

Landon Ferraro is slowly coming around.

The 18-year-old Red Deer Rebels forward has shaken off an early-season knee injury and has started putting up numbers again. In his past four games, he has two multi-point outings and a goal and four assists.

The mild turnaround comes after Ferraro missed 10 games early in the year with a knee injury and a nine-game goalless drought. Overall, he has two goals and six assists in 13 games in the Western Hockey League.

"It's good to have his leadership back, his spark and his energy," Jesse Wallin, the Rebels' head coach, told the Red Deer Advocate.

Ferraro is no stranger to putting up number. Last season, he led the Rebels with 37 goals among 55 points in 68 games, and most figured he'd be a safe bet to crack the 40-goal plateau had he been healthy all year.

Selected 32nd overall by the Red Wings in June's draft, Ferraro projects as a versatile second-line forward who can put the puck in the net.

NOTES: Defenseman Logan Pyett (Grand Rapids, AHL) had a good week and has a goal and five assists in 15 games ... Forward Stephen Johnston (Belleville, Ontario Hockey League) can't shake the injury bug, out with a shoulder injury and concussion in a pivotal contract year ... Forward Johan Ryno (AIK, Swedish Allsvenskan) continues his disappointing third season under contract, with just two goals and an assist in 14 games of second-tier action ... Defenseman Bryan Rufenach (Clarkson, NCAA) has a hyper-offensive knack and he's certainly putting his skills to good use, with two goals and six assists in 10 games thus far.
