The Detroit Red Wings cut two prospects and 10 free-agent tryouts on Sunday at training camp in Traverse City, Mich.
Forwards Randy Cameron (Moncton, Quebec Major Junior Hockey League) and Zack Torquato (Erie, Ontario Hockey League), drafted in June, were both reassigned to their junior teams.
Goaltender Pier-Olivier Pelletier (Drummondville, QMJHL) was the highest profile cut among free agents. Others were forwards Josh Aspenlind, John Kurtz, Scott Brannon, Yves Bastien and David Jarram; defensemen Victor Bartley, Chad Greenan and Patrik Magnusson; and goaltender Dominic Vicari.
Free-agent defenseman Scott Jackson, a former St. Louis Blues second-rounder, survived the cuts and will get a look in the exhibition season. The 6-foot-4, 213-pounder had 35 points in 71 games for the Seattle Thunderbirds of the Western Hockey League last season.
