The following is a snapshot of the good and the bad from the Detroit Red Wings' 3-1 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning at the annual prospects tournament in Traverse City, Mich., on Saturday.
PLUS
Jonathan Ericsson scored the opening goal on a beautiful end-to-end rush and continued to play a strong defensive game.
Evan McGrath looks like a new man. He played hard, tallying a goal and an assist, and showed surprising physicality and intensity.
Igor Grigorenko, officially credited with three assists, had another strong outing. His stickhandling, vision and puck-moving ability stood out the most.
MINUS
Patrik Magnusson is a mountain but doesn’t use his size. His defense partner, Victor Bartley, bailed him out on several occasions.
Randy Cameron looks a little tentative at his first NHL training camp and hasn’t done enough to get himself off the fourth line.
Mattias Ritola had a better game on a line with Zack Torquato and Yves Bastien, but still isn’t displaying much energy or intensity.
