The following is a snapshot of the good and the bad from the Detroit Red Wings' 3-2 loss to the Atlanta Thrashers in the opener of the annual prospects tournament in Traverse City, Mich., on Friday.
PLUS
Jonathan Ericsson — The 6-foot-5 blueliner was Detroit's best player, scoring a goal and playing a steady game paired with Jakub Kindl.
Jan Mursak — The skilled winger had several good scoring chances, particularly late in the game skating with Evan McGrath and Igor Grigorenko.
Darren Helm — The first-year pro used his speed to pressure the Thrashers' defense into turnovers, resulting in some quality scoring chances.
MINUS
Mattias Ritola — The enigmatic Swede didn't make any glaring errors, but also
didn’t flash the skill that the Red Wings have raved about.
Patrik Magnusson — He's certainly big, but the 6-foot-7 tryout had some defensive miscues because of poor decisions and a lack of speed.
Scott Brannon — A free-agent tryout in search of a contract, Brannon played in a limited role, but didn’t put his ice time to good use.
