| HISTORY |
2008-09:
- Attended Red Wings’ prospects tournament and training camp as free-agent tryout but was cut.
- Returned to Portland for fourth WHL season and led his team’s blueliners in scoring (68-9-28-37).
- Made pro debut in AHL with Manitoba on a tryout deal at season’s end (3-0-0-0).
- Signed a three-year entry-level contract with the Red Wings in July.
|
2009-10:
- Broke into pros in AHL with Grand Rapids.
- Spent most of the season as an extra defenseman (42-0-5-5, minus-9, 37 shots).
- Also had a three-game demotion in ECHL with Toledo (3-1-1-2).
|
2010-11:
- Returned to Grand Rapids for sophomore AHL season (52-4-11-15, even plus-minus, 56 shots).
- Used mostly as a depth defenseman but showed his versatility by taking shifts as a forward.
|
2011-12:
- Appeared in two NHL pre-season games with Red Wings (2-0-0-0, even plus-minus, one shot).
- Returned to Grand Rapids for third AHL season but suffered shoulder injury in third game.
- Missed three months but returned in January and earned spot in lineup (41-1-6-7, plus-6, 48 shots).

- Called up for Red Wings’ brief playoff run to serve as a Black Ace (spare who doesn’t play).

| SCOUT COMMENTS |
|
“He can skate the puck out of trouble, which is a good. His upside is his skating and his size and (making) a good first pass out of his zone. He really has no problem with the physical aspects (of the AHL) or the speed in terms of defending.” — Griffins general manager Bob McNamara (April 2010).
|
| STRENGTHS |
|
Good skater and puck-mover … Stocky with good strength … Hard point shot … Versatile and has skated as a forward during his AHL time with Grand Rapids.
|
| WEAKNESSES |
|
Decision-making with puck needs work at the pro level … Has good skills but doesn’t produce much … Plays a simple game and doesn’t have a great deal of NHL upside.
|
| PROJECTION |
|
Ehrhardt was mostly signed for depth purposes but the Red Wings also like what he has to offer. He will need to assert himself as a top-four AHL defenseman to put himself on the map.
