SCOUT COMMENTS
"He's got great size and he's got good skills. When I went over to see him play, I just didn't like the work ethic that was there. But we loved his skill, and he's shown flashes. There's something there that we like here. He's got all the tools and skills." — Red Wings assistant general manager Jim Nill (October 2004) ... "He's 6-foot-4 with speed, hands and hockey sense. We say it and scouts from other teams say it too, he's the ultimate late pick because he has all the tools. If he ever makes it (to the NHL), he's a high-end player. But will he make it? Nobody knows right now." — Red Wings director of European scouting Hakan Andersson (January 2007).

STRENGTHS
Excellent size and good skating to match ... Good 1-on-1 ability and the individual skills to produce ... Smart offensive player ... Quick wrist shot ... Scorer's touch.

WEAKNESSES
Inconsistent work ethic has prevented him from fulfilling his potential ... Teases with occasional flashes of upside but can be invisible at other times ... Physical game doesn't match his size.

PROJECTION
Stolyarov has spent two seasons in the Russian Elite League but hasn't experienced an offensive breakthrough. If he ever puts it all together, he'll be a solid scoring-line prospect, but even then, the lack of a transfer agreement may keep him from factoring into the Red Wings' future.
