HISTORY
2011-12
- Spent season with his hometown club in Ostersund, primarily at Sweden’s second U-18 level.
- Very productive at U-18 level, averaging a point per game (17-7-10-17).
- Did not earn spots on any of Sweden’s national junior teams.
- Both teams/leagues are off the beaten path, so Bodin wasn’t ranked for the 2012 NHL draft.
- Transferred to much more reputed HV-71 organization in off-season.
- Selected in the seventh round (200th overall) by the Red Wings in the 2012 NHL draft.
|
2012-13
- Started season with HV-71 at Sweden’s J-20 SuperElit level.
- Struggled to fit in with new team and battled injuries (18-0-1-1, minus-4).
- Transferred to Tranas of Sweden’s third level late in season (6-0-3-3, minus-5).

SCOUT COMMENTS
“For his size and age, he’s a very good skater — he’s not awkward like some guys are that age when they get big. He’s got good speed and he really works hard all the time. He plays with good intensity and he works, he works, he works … At this point, I would say I’m hoping he becomes a bigger version of (current Red Wings forward) Justin Abdelkader, a guy who works hard, uses his body and is a useful guy for the team.” — Red Wings director of European scouting Hakan Andersson (June 2012).
STRENGTHS
Six-foot-six frame and work ethic are the two things that stand out the most … Speed is also impressive for his size … Good hockey sense … Likes to play physical although he’ll need to show he can do it at a higher level without being penalized.
WEAKNESSES
Has grown significantly in the past two years and is still adjusting to his bigger body … Offensive upside is limited, although the Red Wings hope it just hasn’t come to the surface yet.
PROJECTION
Bodin was a classic Hakan Andersson darkhorse pick who — like all the other late-rounders he’s taken — will be fun to watch develop. Compared by Andersson to Justin Abdelkader, Bodin is coming off a terrible 2012-13 and needs to bounce back in a big way in 2013-14.
