SCOUT COMMENTS
"He just needs to work on the simple things. He needs to move the puck right away, make good passes (on a consistent basis). When he goes to the NHL, he's going to be a good one-pass defenseman who at times can get involved a little bit offensively but for the most part is going to be a good defensive defenseman." — Griffins general manager Bob McNamara (November 2006) ... "There have been stretches where he's been a force and stretches where we haven't noticed him. When he asserts himself physically, the rest of his game takes off. He constantly has to be reminded to be physical and make that first pass. When he does that, he's very good." — McNamara (January 2008).

STRENGTHS
Good skating ability and mobility ... Hard point shot ... Plays smart defensive game ... Reads plays well ... Plays a physical game and works hard along boards ... Competes hard in 1-on-1 battles ... Strong penalty killer ... Works hard every night ... Sticks up for teammates.

WEAKNESSES
Offensive upside fairly limited at NHL level ... Needs to keep game simple and not try to do too much ... Has struggled with inconsistency ... Doesn't always make the simple play coming out of own zone.

PROJECTION
Quincey showed during his stint with Detroit in the 2007 playoffs that he can handle NHL duty as a stay-at-home defenseman, but he has been surpassed by Jonathan Ericsson on the depth chart. With the Red Wings stacked on the blue line, Quincey could be the odd man out because he must clear waivers to go to the minors. His future with the Red Wings depends on his performance at training camp.
