| SCOUT COMMENTS |
| “He’s a very competitive kid who can really shoot the puck. He’s very willing to play in front of the net and score dirty goals, play a physical game, and he just competes really hard.” — Red Wings scout Mark Leach (June 2011). |
| STRENGTHS |
| Boasts a heavy, heavy shot and likes to use it … Good upper-body strength helps him win a lot of battles along the wall and down low … Gets involved physically and drives the net … Plays an up-and-down, north-south game … Likes to throw his weight around … Not a high-skill player, but is showing flashes of having a finishing touch … Pays attention to the game’s small details.
|
| WEAKNESSES |
| While he has a heavy shot, his wind-up is painfully slow and he needs to develop a quicker release … Lumbering skater who has a good stride but lacks lower body strength and needs to pick up his quickness … Offensive upside, outside of his shot, is limited … According to Hudon himself, obsessive-compulsive disorder has brought with it unique challenges for his hockey career. |
| PROJECTION |
| Hudon hasn’t produced much — just 18 goals among 40 points in 99 games — in a season and a half of major junior since the Red Wings drafted him in the fifth round in 2011. The Red Wings must sign Hudon to an entry-level contract by June 1, 2013, or allow him to re-enter the draft. |
