SCOUT COMMENTS
"He's such a smart player ... The puck follows him around. He's got great hands, he always knocks it out of the air, and he's in the right place at the right time — all the time." — Grand Rapids Griffins general manager Bob McNamara (March 2009).

STRENGTHS
Cerebral offensive player who can pick holes in the defense with or without the puck ... Another one of those puck-possession-type players that fit the Red Wings' blueprint ... Boasts soft hands and a hard, quick shot that made him a 50-goal scorer at the major junior level ... Not just a goal-scoring threat, also a strong playmaker with good vision ... Power-play threat.

WEAKNESSES
Needs to pick up his skating, particularly his one-step quickness ... This could be a concern given the pace of the NHL game, combined with his below-average size ... Not a physical presence.

PROJECTION
The Red Wings were so impressed with Pare when he was playing in Grand Rapids on a minor-league contract as an AHL rookie, they signed him to an entry-level deal so they wouldn't lose him. A brutal season-opening slump caused his numbers to drop off in 2009-10 and he needs to rebound. Pare needs to emerge as an offensive leader with Grand Rapids in 2010-11.
