  • Returned to Northern Michigan for NCAA senior season and started all 38 games.
  • Posted excellent numbers (2.70 GAA, .919 Sv%) and led CCHA with 1,109 saves.
  • Only spent 119 minutes out of net all season.
  • Northern Michigan finished 10th among 11 teams in CCHA standings with second fewest goals scored.
  • Ranked as 10th best college free agent (second among goalies) by Red Line Report.
  • Drew interest from seven NHL teams, according to the Mining Journal, before signing with Detroit.

  • Spent four days on Red Wings roster (mostly for salary cap reasons) but did not play.

SCOUT COMMENTS
“He’s probably the most athletic goalie I’ve ever seen. He’s incredibly swift; his ability to get up and down and his angles are impressive.” — Lincoln Stars head coach Jim McGroarty (October 2009, yourottawaregion.com) … “They (the Red Wings) certainly have opportunity and (Coreau) will be given every opportunity to grow as a goalie and I have every confidence that he will. They are going to do everything they can to bring him along and in my opinion, someday he’ll be playing goal for Detroit.” — Northern Michigan head coach Walt Kyle (April 2013, miningjournal.net).

STRENGTHS
According to Red Line Report, Coreau was a “stylistic mess” in his draft year, but “cleaned up his technique” and is “smooth and athletic” … Athleticism stands out for his size … Fits the mold of larger goaltenders, who have taken over the NHL over the past decade … Confident with good mental toughness … Dedicated to fitness and got much stronger after reporting to Northern Michigan as a skinny freshman … Mature and intelligent off the ice as one of Northern Michigan’s top scholar-athletes.

WEAKNESSES
Continued work is needed on his technique and fundamentals, as he won’t be able to rely on his athleticism as much in the professional ranks.

PROJECTION
Coreau was ranked as one of the top college free-agents in 2013 and chose the Red Wings over seven other NHL suitors. Although he is an athletic, giant-sized stopper, he had an awful rookie pro campaign in 2013-14, albeit spent mostly behind a porous ECHL defense in Toledo. In the final year of his entry-level contract, Coreau needs to bounce back and will spend most of the 2014-15 season in the ECHL with Toledo.
