2006-07:
- Drafted second overall in 2006 WHL bantam draft by Red Deer.
- Spent most of 2006-07 season in British Columbia's midget ranks.
- Also got into four WHL games with Red Deer but didn't record a point.

2007-08
- Stepped in and had a solid WHL rookie season with Red Deer (54-13-11-14, minus-24).
- Red Deer was the second-worst team in the WHL, winning just 18 of 72 games.
- Represented Team Pacific at the world under-17 challenge (6-2-2-4).

2008-09
- Led Red Deer (WHL) in scoring by a wide margin (68-37-18-55-99, minus-23).
- Red Deer won just 25 of 72 games and had the second-worst offense in the WHL.
- Tied for ninth in WHL goal-scoring, second only to Evander Kane among 1991-born players.
- Represented Canada at world under-18 championship (5-2-2-4, plus-4, nine shots).
- Ranked as a first-rounder for NHL draft (26th TSN, 17th ISS, 38th RLR).
- Red Wings traded down (29th to 32nd) and grabbed Ferraro early in second round.

2009-10
- Returned to Red Deer for his third full WHL season but suffered knee injury in second game.
- Missed 19 of Red Deer's first 36 games, spending almost two weeks doing no activity at all.
- Seemed to find his game in January, enjoying a terrific 20-game stretch (20-9-16-25).
- Couldn't put it together on consistent basis and finished fourth in team scoring (53-16-30-46).
- Went scoreless in three playoff games and was a healthy scratch in Red Deer's final game.
- Signed amateur tryout contract and finished season in AHL with Grand Rapids (2-0-0-0).
