“That’s a role I’m completely comfortable with. Let’s face it, I’m not going to be a Ilya Kovalchuk or Sidney Crosby or a 100-point guy. That’s never going to happen.”

Geez Randall ...Talk about having a defeatist attitude!

He's done a good job for GR this season. No, he won't light up the scoreboard but he will get his points, bang the boards and do what's necessary to help the team win. He's a worker and players like that are always a welcome addition to a team. It's good to see someone with size actually using it.

Would you say he's got more upside than Matt Ellis, or is a career 4th liner/AHL vet probably his topside from what you've seen?

I see 4th line NHL at best and that is a stretch. He is an average AHL'er right now and has been playing at this level for a couple years. I don't expect a ton of improvement.

Of course I have been wrong before ( see Lebda).

I'd agree. Right now I'd say he'll always be a guy on the bubble for an NHL 4th line or a career AHL'er. Most likely the latter. But you never know how he will progress.

Given time he may be comparable to Ellis. But Gelech has been a healthy scratch a few times. Something Ellis never was here in GR.

In his defense, hasn't just about everyone down there been a healthy scratch at least once this year? I think only top 3 of Cullen, Corazzini, and Hartigan along with Ericsson haven't missed a game yet.

Most of the guys have sat out at least one game as a healthy scratch. This is not a surprise given the youth and inconsistency of this team.

I do know that Jamie Tardif who in not even on a Wings contract has not been a scratch yet this year. This is well deserved as he has been one of the bright spots of the season so far.
