John is correct he is super fast like Helm and is a hard working defensive forward. Very good on the PK and was signed as an undrafted player.

I saw him play last year in the CHL playoffs for the Brandon Wheat Kings, and like the two posts before, he can really skate. I don't know if he's got "Helm speed" but he defiantly close. In the NHL he's probably a fourth liner, but in Detroit, we always seem to love those hard working grinders.
In a couple of years, could you imagine a Helm, Raedeke, and Callahan line? Or if Helm is moved up to the third line, who knows maybe even the second, Andersson, Raedeke, and Callahan. Grind Line, the second coming?

He's nothing like Helm. Every gave i've been to where Raedeke has played he's gone unnoticed every game. He's reponsible in both ends of the ice and he's fast. He's not nearly as tenacious on the forecheck or aggresive with the physical play or offensively creative enough to be compared to Helm.

Helm is compared to Draper in his prime.
Raedeke is comprable to Draper in present time.

I was able to watch him for 3 seasons with the Oil Kings (50G, 67A, 117PTS & 202PIM in 2 1/2 seasons w/OK) until he was traded to Brandon in 2010. The OK were an expansion team, so they were pretty bad. But Raedeke was a real bright spot (along with Tomas Vincour who is with Dallas right now). Fast, and he showed great potential to play 2-way hockey. I was exstatic when he signed with the Wings.

Give him time, I think he's probably adjusting to hockey life at the next level. Some players adjust early, some take time.

That's an insult to Raedeke. Draper is virtually useless at this point in his career. There are tons of players that could replace Draper at this point and be far more effective then is at this point.

You're useless too, doesn't stop you from posting. Draper is still a decent 4th line/reserve player, as much for his leadership than his on ice play. He's just now worth the cap hit he's getting at this point.
Reggie Dunlop: What are you guys doing?
Steve Hanson: Puttin' on the foil!
Jeff Hanson: Every game!
Jack Hanson: Yeah, you want some?

I don't know why everybody keeps regurgitating the same phrase 'a little Darren Helm in him' to describe Raedeke ? He is a different type of player. It's interesting to note but never published that they also say, 'given the opportunity, he can produce offensively' and yet he has NOT been given that opportunity in GR... yet ! Hopefully that will change. It's a rookie thing and paying your dues thing I guess, but when you never are afforded the opportunity to play with some offensively talented players and never get any PP time, it is impossible to put up decent numbers at the pro level. Did you know he quarterbacked the PP from the point his entire junior career; including with Brandon in the Memorial Cup.
If he was given the same chances that some of the other GR players are getting he would put up very good numbers too. Remember he was tied with Tomas Tatar for most points at the Traverse City pre-season tournament. All Raedeke's points came at even strength too.
In Edmonton, he was on a brutal, lack of talent, team that was coached to dump and chase and play the trap. It's amazing he put up the points he did but that's also how he got stereo-typed as a the best defensive forward in the WHL. If he would have had the good fortune of playing on a better offensive minded team with decent talent he would have been a 90 - 100 point player in junior.
I hope Detroit hasn't permanently labeled him as a role player because he is so much more than that and if 'given the opportunity' he will show them that !!

Funny I feel the exact same about Coetzee....and I have mentioned it before in one of my posts. A highly offensive player, works his butt off, never quits and as with Radeake was on a brutal team last year (last in every thing) but yet came up with 82 points for the year.....was utilised EXTENSIVELY on the point in PP, yet in GR never given a sniff at PP or plonked on the fourth CHECKING line....dump and chase.....and then because he has 5 points in 25 games (with extreme limited minutes on a fourth line) dumped in the ECHL. How are they expected to produce or show their worth? Coetzee admittedly said his defensive play needs to improve and I have it now from a reliable source that he is given tons of PK minutes as well as PP in Toledo and his defensive play has improved substantially. In fact, he plays his shift in each of the PK's in Toledo and touch wood has not been scored against yet. For that part, I think its a great thing he could work on his defensive play. Then just the other day (how much more can you demotivate a player) they call up Hedden from Toledo to help out in GR whereas Coetzee has been doing great in Toledo..... how much more do you have to prove yourself without feeling demotivated and not being recalled? Just baffles me....hmmm maybe the coach does not favour rookies - and I mean real rookies - fresh off the boat ;-)) (tongue in cheek). That's my two cents worth. I just feel you cannot remotely compare as the previous writer mentioned the players with limited play time with guys thats on the ice 24/7. Heck...some of those 3 top line guys just recently started producing....where the heck where they the whole year?? Maybe they should've been dumped to the E for a wake up call! :-))
