"I don't know why everybody keeps regurgitating the same phrase 'a little Darren Helm in him' to describe Raedeke ? He is a different type of player. It's interesting to note but never published that they also say, 'given the opportunity, he can produce offensively' and yet he has NOT been given that opportunity in GR... yet ! Hopefully that will change. It's a rookie thing and paying your dues thing I guess, but when you never are afforded the opportunity to play with some offensively talented players and never get any PP time, it is impossible to put up decent numbers at the pro level. Did you know he quarterbacked the PP from the point his entire junior career; including with Brandon in the Memorial Cup.
If he was given the same chances that some of the other GR players are getting he would put up very good numbers too. Remember he was tied with Tomas Tatar for most points at the Traverse City pre-season tournament. All Raedeke's points came at even strength too.
In Edmonton, he was on a brutal, lack of talent, team that was coached to dump and chase and play the trap. It's amazing he put up the points he did but that's also how he got stereo-typed as a the best defensive forward in the WHL. If he would have had the good fortune of playing on a better offensive minded team with decent talent he would have been a 90 - 100 point player in junior.
I hope Detroit hasn't permanently labeled him as a role player because he is so much more than that and if 'given the opportunity' he will show them that !!"
Funny I feel the exact same about Coetzee....and I have mentioned it before in one of my posts. A highly offensive player, works his butt off, never quits and as with Radeake was on a brutal team last year (last in every thing) but yet came up with 82 points for the year.....was utilised EXTENSIVELY on the point in PP, yet in GR never given a sniff at PP or plonked on the fourth CHECKING line....dump and chase.....and then because he has 5 points in 25 games (with extreme limited minutes on a fourth line) dumped in the ECHL. How are they expected to produce or show their worth? Coetzee admittedly said his defensive play needs to improve and I have it now from a reliable source that he is given tons of PK minutes as well as PP in Toledo and his defensive play has improved substantially. In fact, he plays his shift in each of the PK's in Toledo and touch wood has not been scored against yet. For that part, I think its a great thing he could work on his defensive play. Then just the other day (how much more can you demotivate a player) they call up Hedden from Toledo to help out in GR whereas Coetzee has been doing great in Toledo..... how much more do you have to prove yourself without feeling demotivated and not being recalled? Just baffles me....hmmm maybe the coach does not favour rookies - and I mean real rookies - fresh off the boat

) (tongue in cheek). That's my two cents worth. I just feel you cannot remotely compare as the previous writer mentioned the players with limited play time with guys thats on the ice 24/7. Heck...some of those 3 top line guys just recently started producing....where the heck where they the whole year?? Maybe they should've been dumped to the E for a wake up call!
