Why doesn't Manningham drop all of those balls when he's playing against MSU?

Meh.

I felt going into the game that OSU's offense versus UM's defense was a push. So, IMO, the game would be decided by UM's offense versus OSU's defense. From that standpoint, I think the weather played a big part of it and gave the advantage to OSU.

well, to bad Ohio State had to blow it last week, or they'd be playing for the National Championship again..... Oh well, I don't think they would have beat LSU anyway.

I agree.

From a Big Ten standpoint, it’s probably better that OSU lost to Illinois and most-likely wrecked their chances of a second straight trip to the NC game, just to get embarrassed again.

Someone else posted in another thread that OSU may have been overrated much of the season and I tend to agree. Their offense isn’t much at all, certainly nowhere near as potent as when Troy Smith was running the show.

And while their D is terrific, the weather today did give them a pretty strong assist as Henne was obviously having trouble getting a good grip on the ball with those gloves he was wearing. I'm not sure if the weather had anything to do with Manningham's bad day, though. It looked like he was playing tight, something that I don't remember seeing in him in previous big games.

As a CFB fan, I would’ve preferred a dry day in Ann Arbor today as I think that would’ve produced a more exciting game and a better "tell" as to how the two teams really matched up.

All in all, I think the Big Ten has had a down year, as many national media pundits predicted would be the case before the season began.

Well, at least Western is winning right now. State is down..... Not a good year for football in the state of Michigan.

Good riddance to Carr, Henne, Hart, and Long. Bunch of losers. Of course, that's the emotional fan in me coming out. Honestly though, I won't miss Carr or Henne, I've never been a fan of either and have been ready for Carr to move on for about 4 years now. Hart is irreplaceable, as is Long. Two good leaders and some of the best at their positions. Next year will be an interesting one for Michigan. New QB, Kevin Grady coming back (and Sam McGuffie maybe in the mix), more questions on defense.

Only four years? Here’s what you need to do:

Find yourself a time machine. Set the dial to almost ten years ago when Lloyd was a NC-winning coach with a 7-0 record against Top-Ten teams. Head to A2 and walk down State Street calling out for Lloyd to be fired. See if that’ll attract the only other doooooofus in the entire world at that time who was calling for Lloyd’s head. Then direct him to the nearest pawn shop where he can buy a UM class ring and start pretending he went to Michigan.

I'm sure it's easy to be wowed by a coach like Lloyd Carr if you happen to be watching the doofus of the year who is coaching MSU. Michigan fans should expect more than that, however.

Here's what I've seen since he got here---Lloyd has never managed a game efficiently, during the NC year or any other year. He has never allowed his players to take appropriate chances and use their talent to its fullest. His offense is completely predictable and easily gameplanned against. His teams are consistently unprepared (he says so in his postgame conferences), particularly against teams they should beat. He has not reacted to changing defenses and offenses. He has one of the top three brands in college football and hasn't delivered more than one (split) NC. He is consistently unprepared and lays eggs against OSU and in bowls. On and on and on. This was going on in 1995, and other than a 1997 year where his players' talent trumped his inadequecy, it has gone on every other year, including 2007. Because he has usually had decent talent he is able to ring up 8-9 wins in a weak conference and go to a decent bowl. And I'm sure that would be plenty for an MSU fan without much else going for him. But I happen to be just one of many who has rightly complained about him for over a decade for not having the ability to push his program beyond that. His "era" should have ended in the middle of the Clinton administration. But that is past- Hopefully Michigan makes the right choice and takes the next step- past just stomping on ND & MSU and toward beating OSU consistently and in BCS contention consistently. Perhaps beating an in state rival is enough for some people, but Michigan should aspire to more than that.

Looks like McGuffie may de-commit if his primary recruiter at UM isn't retained by the new coach:

http://www.mlive.com/wolverines/index.s ... to_be.html

The possible defection of running back and YouTube sensation Sam McGuffie notwithstanding, the University of Michigan's next football recruiting class appears to be sticking together fairly well in the aftermath of Lloyd Carr's retirement announcement this week...

Jackson was also the lead recruiter for the Texan McGuffie, the nation's No. 9 all-purpose back this year, according to Rivals.com. Helmholdt said after speaking with his recruiting contacts in the Houston area that "McGuffie is the one guy I would say at this point I expect not to end up at Michigan."
