From a Big Ten standpoint, it’s probably better that OSU lost to Illinois and most-likely wrecked their chances of a second straight trip to the NC game, just to get embarrassed again.
Someone else posted in another thread that OSU may have been overrated much of the season and I tend to agree. Their offense isn’t much at all, certainly nowhere near as potent as when Troy Smith was running the show.
And while their D is terrific, the weather today did give them a pretty strong assist as Henne was obviously having trouble getting a good grip on the ball with those gloves he was wearing. I'm not sure if the weather had anything to do with Manningham's bad day, though. It looked like he was playing tight, something that I don't remember seeing in him in previous big games.
As a CFB fan, I would’ve preferred a dry day in Ann Arbor today as I think that would’ve produced a more exciting game and a better "tell" as to how the two teams really matched up.
All in all, I think the Big Ten has had a down year, as many national media pundits predicted would be the case before the season began.
