What's up with the Big Ten this year?

I'm going to have a hard time this year defending the B10 against perennial charges made by fans of the other “power conferences” that our conference is always over-rated -- thanks to the benevolence of Midwest pollsters.

Michigan State and Minnesota are embarrassments (no shocker there) and only a touch worse than Northwestern.

Iowa blows this year, yet just beat [allegedly #18] Illinois.

Penn State is deservedly unranked (though I think they are leading the country in the rape, under-aged drinking and road rage categories).

Michigan lost at home to, well, um, you know, before being taken to the wall by Northwestern (who lost at home to Duke…Duke!), struggled early against a MAC team, before blowing out a turn-over happy supposedly #24 Purdue.

Wisconsin, another supposedly Top-5 team, even after getting taken to the mat by The Citadel (The Citadel?) and Michigan State, goes out and loses at home to…Illinois (who, again, just lost to suck-ass Iowa)?

Other than Ohio State, go, um, Indiana?

And then people wonder why poor old JoePa goes nutso in his car, on his way home from the Piggly Wiggly. It's a grind, the Big Ten, national rankings be damned. Anyone can beat anyone, and they do, all year long.

Of course, not having seen the Michigan game today, thanks to the greedy bastards who should be skinned alive on national TV, I don't have any good opinions on my own team's performance. I'm not happy about the ankle-injuries to Hart and Miner.

I love my DirecTV with the BTN.

Penn State blows out #19 Wisconsin.

MSU's looking like a real team against IU, but it's only halftime--plenty of time for the meltdown.

Big Ten = Big One, Little Ten...

Big Ten? What's up with college football this year? The top 10 is a curse, you are bound to lose within 3 weeks of getting in it. The top-3 are OSU, BC, and South Florida? Are you kidding me? This is the strangest season in several years. Nobody is standing out as a dominant team. USC? Lost. LSU? Lost. OSU? No respectable wins yet. Texas, Florida? Two losses each. And the season is only half over. Should be an interesting finish to say the least.

Good point, Jaster. We tend to focus on the Big Ten here, especially Drew Sharp, but nobody is gettin' it done every week this season. It's really going to be interesting, to see who ends up in the championship game. I predict there's going to be some loud bitching, around that time, not to mention politicking.

No joke. And the UM game was in HD yesterday. Would be great to see some Big 10 hockey but I don't suppose that will happen.
