Fraser. Doe he stay or go?

Unread postby BCraft on Sun Apr 15, 2012 9:34 pm

So does Fraser stay or go? Two seasons-no playoffs. Three seasons in a row of struggled. I don't think he gets the most from his talent. I understand This team has had awful goaltending during long stretches this season.

My issue has been with the depth on defense, why aren't they getting a better result? My vote is make a change. Time for a different voice in the room.

That would be three seasons with no playoffs. This team plays terrible in their own zone, total team defense has been awful, the quality chances they routinely give up has made it hard on all four goalies who played this year.

The talent was there on the Griffs this year. The inability to play even average team defense has cost many games this season. This is not the fault of the goaltenders.

The coaching staff needs to be replaced.

I would let him go for many of the reasons stated above and more.

If you have watched this team play, horrible team defense, poor special teams, the same recurring mistakes that have gone uncorrected all season, this is not developing good players. Any success the team had this year came from the sheer talent of the players, not the coaching.

well the plus side for the team is that they finished 2nd overall in goals scored!
pity is they were 3rd overall in goals conceded.

Its hard when the big team keeps calling up players and lets be fair here they only
call up the top guys on the Griffs roster. So its gunna hurt them everytime the Wings
take players and the past couple of seasons have been particulary bad regarding the
amount of players recalled.

In fact if you look at the Griffs roster for 05-06 when they won the Conf, they lost
Hudler and Filppula for 4 games each, Maclean for 3 and Quincey and Kopecky for
a game each. Lebda was gone half the season to cover the injury of Kronwall.
So the Griffins roster was pretty well settled all year. 17 guys playing in over 60
games compared to just 11 this year playing in over 60 games. Fraser hasnt had
a easy deal and id have a hard job being convinced anyone else could have done
much more than he has.

That's a very weak arguement for him to stay.
What do the Leafs and the Titanic have in common? They both look good until they hit the ice.

Part of being a AHL coach is dealing with callups. Any coach can sit behind the bench and let good players win. The hallmark of a good coach is developing bottom six guys who, by the end of the season, can plug into the top 6 when injuries and callups occur. The Ferraros, Aubrys, and Parkes.

Team defense isnt about talent. It is about work ethic, grit and system. The goaltending didn't help but in the end Fraser didn't do enough over the course of three seasons now to keep his job. The Griffs weren't even close to the playoffs in the end.

I just read this as well on MLive. I don't agree with it but it soundsl like Nill is biringing him back. Nill uses the callup and injuries as an excuse but that goes on every year. So I am not buying that. They have to find a way to cure the inconstient effort from game to game. Goalitending was up and down all year. Did the young players improve. Nill says they did. I will like to here from others who saw them in person.
