Paterno was just a football coach and not the great man he pretended to be after all. It's a little sad, but not really all that shocking. Power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely, and that's pretty much what Paterno had in State College. The investigation showed that he did know more than he pretended to, did address it more that he said he did, including e-mails when he said that he didn't use e-mail at the time, and chose the program over what was right. I just wish he was still alive so he could face the music. These people who are continuing to defend him and the school and program are either deluded or just plain sick and wrong.

Well since the entire athletic program at PSU is funded by football, I cannot imagine any pressure to not want to tarnish the schools image....

Joe was at PSU for 50 years... If he made the mistake of trying to prevent this thing from exploding publically, that is unfortunate and maybe he would have been better off to bit the bullet at first sight... Those decisions are easily made with the benefit of hind site...

He was a great coach and a terrific leader for 50 years.... I refuse to judge the man soley by this tragic unfortunate incident.. Joe's crime was not coming forward hard immediately... He was not in the showers with camera while it was going on....

The real shame is the man's memory is going to be tarnished forever because of Sandusky

Well I gave him the benefit of the doubt and I said I'd reserve judgement until all the facts came out. Joe Pa was a piece of shit after all. Guess thirteen was right about something... glad he isn't around anymore to rub my nose in it.

It wasn't a mistake. it wasn't just one" incident. A mistake is when I was doing cable and I cut a line too short. This was a conscious decision that he continued for years and LET THE SICK TWISTED MOTHER **** CONTINUE TO USE THE PENN STATE FACILITIES. I would feel a little differently if he hadn't reported it to the police but made sure that he shut down his charity and never came without 100 miles of the campus again, although I think he would have been wrong for not calling the police. The fact that he LET IT CONTINUE means that he is just as culpable as anyone else involved, and the fact that he lied about how much he knew and what he did about it to follow up ("I didn't use e-mails..." oops, there were e-mails about it sent by Paterno) proves that he knew it was wrong and that he decided to value the program over the kids.

as it should be. The man knew Sandusky was abusing young boys and did NOTHING. He could have saved boys from going through that horror, but instead worried about himself and his precious football program first. How anyone can have empathy for Joe Pa is beyond me.
