Red Wings Central RSS

FROM THE PUBLISHER

It has been a great pleasure over the past 16 years providing you with exclusive, in-depth coverage of Detroit Red Wings prospects.

Whether it was future stars such as Pavel Datsyuk, Henrik Zetterberg or Niklas Kronwall or a prospect who never made it such as Igor Grigorenko, Christofer Lofberg or Alexander Seluyanov — I loved the weekly tradition of keeping you informed with news, notes, stats and the inside scoop straight from the mouths of scouts.

However, there comes a time to move on — even from a good thing — and while Red Wings Central is not completely shutting down and going dark, there will be no new content posted as of September 2014. That means the end of traditional coverage including weekly RWC Reports, prospect rankings, draft coverage and maintenance of prospect scouting profiles.

The site will remain up indefinitely for reference purposes and the message board will remain open indefinitely. Regular, long-time users are encouraged to continue posting if they wish so the online community remains alive and well.

Thank you for visiting and supporting the site through the years. And a special thank you to Jim Nill, Hakan Andersson, Jiri Fischer, Joe McDonnell, Mark Leach, David Kolb and the Detroit Red Wings scouting staff — past and present — for returning countless calls and being so accommodating.

Sincerely,

Matthew Wuest

Axel Holmstrom
Published on Saturday, June 28, 2014, 9:12 pm, under 2014 Draft Coverage
Time will tell whether Axel Holmstrom proves to be another late-round steal for Hakan Andersson, but at least two rival scouts were green with envy over the selection.
Dylan Larkin
Published on Saturday, June 28, 2014, 9:11 pm, under 2014 Draft Coverage
Scouts are loathe to compare prospects to current NHLers. But asked if Dylan Larken is like Darren Helm with more offensive upside, Jeff Finley didn’t hesitate.
Alexander Kadeykin
Published on Saturday, June 28, 2014, 9:10 pm, under 2014 Draft Coverage
The Detroit Red Wings don’t usually draft a player from Russia without some confidence he wants to come to North America — and Alexander Kadeykin is no exception.
Julius Vahatalo
Published on Saturday, June 28, 2014, 9:09 pm, under 2014 Draft Coverage
The Detroit Red Wings have never been shy about picking a player who was passed over in a previous draft — Pavel Datsyuk being the most famous example — and Finnish center Julius Vahatalo is the latest to join the list.
Christoffer Ehn
Published on Saturday, June 28, 2014, 8:15 pm, under 2014 Draft Coverage
Christoffer Ehn is as raw a project as any of the Detroit Red Wings' 2014 draft selections, and Hakan Andersson admits he has a “soft spot” for the big Swedish center.
Chase Perry
Published on Saturday, June 28, 2014, 4:05 pm, under 2014 Draft Coverage
Only Chase Perry’s selection in the fifth round prevented the 2014 NHL draft from being an all-forward affair for the Detroit Red Wings.
Dominic Turgeon
Published on Saturday, June 28, 2014, 3:08 pm, under 2014 Draft Coverage
Heading into the 2014 NHL entry draft, the Detroit Red Wings had Dominic Turgeon ranked as a first-rounder.
Dylan Larkin
Published on Friday, June 27, 2014, 9:05 pm, under 2014 Draft Coverage
The Detroit Red Wings looked to their own back yard when they made their highest draft choice in 23 years on Friday night in Philadelphia.
Xavier Ouellet
Published on Thursday, June 19, 2014, 2:30 pm, under Miscellaneous
The Detroit Red Wings have their highest draft pick since they selected Martin Lapointe 10th overall 23 years ago in 1991.
Tomas Nosek
Published on Saturday, June 14, 2014, 6:17 pm, under Miscellaneous
The Detroit Red Wings don’t have a second-round pick in the NHL draft later this month because of the David Legwand trade, but the signing of Tomas Nosek should help lessen some of that sting.
Anthony Mantha
Published on Monday, May 19, 2014, 1:16 pm, under RWC Rankings
If Anthony Mantha has not yet won over the scouts who doubted him on draft day, he probably never will.
Teemu Pulkkinen
Published on Sunday, May 18, 2014, 11:04 pm, under 2013-14 RWC Reports
The Grand Rapids Griffins' quest for a second straight AHL Calder Cup came to a close on Sunday night in a blowout 7-1 loss to the Texas Stars in the AHL Western Conference semifinal.
Mattias Backman
Published on Saturday, May 3, 2014, 7:35 pm, under 2013-14 RWC Reports
An influx of young forwards propelled the Detroit Red Wings to their 23rd straight playoff appearance this season. The next influx of youth is expected to come on the blue line — and it might be on the way sooner than later.
Andrej Nestrasil
Published on Sunday, April 27, 2014, 10:23 pm, under 2013-14 RWC Reports
Andrej Nestrasil has very quietly emerged as one of the Grand Rapids Griffins' top performers.
Tyler Bertuzzi
Published on Wednesday, April 23, 2014, 11:16 am, under 2013-14 RWC Reports
Most Canadian Hockey League followers predicted the Guelph Storm would still be in the hunt for the Memorial Cup in late April — but not many thought Tyler Bertuzzi would be playing a key role for them.
